Grand Canyon

When you visit the Grand Canyon, make sure you're there for sunrise.

The Grand Canyon deserves a page all to itself. It’s simply amazing, overwhelming, awe-inspiring, etc. I know I build it up, and that treads the dangerous territory of creating overly-high expectations for someone who will make their first visit to the Canyon, but the Canyon never fails to surpass those expectations.

I have a friend who had heard me rave about the Canyon for a year or two before actually making the trek there with his mom who was visiting from out of town. I’ll keep him nameless as he’s the type of guy that doesn’t like little dogs, eats the biggest steaks possible and generally typifies cool. (Sidenote: I don’t understand why it’s generally “not cool” to love our planet and be amazed at Mother Nature.)  My buddy and his mum arrived outside GCNP at night, so they didn’t see the Canyon until the morning, when he sent me a text message at 8am that said, “Holy shit. This is unbelievable. I feel so small – and pretty insignificant.”

Enough said.

Here are a few photos I’ve taken on a couple of trips to and into the Grand Canyon. I plan on going again soon, and updating these photos regularly.
